Turkey’s solar sector has moved well beyond the early adoption phase. What once looked like a supplementary energy source is now becoming central to the country’s long-term electricity planning. Rising energy import costs, pressure on industrial power users, and the need for cleaner generation are pushing solar installations across both utility and commercial segments. By 2026, Turkey had already emerged as one of the more active renewable energy markets in the region, particularly due to strong solar irradiation across Central Anatolia and southeastern provinces. EPC companies are finding opportunities not only in large solar farms but also in factory rooftops, logistics parks, and industrial zones where businesses want greater control over electricity costs. 

What’s Driving the Solar EPC Market in Turkey? 

Utility-Scale Solar Projects Continue to Expand 

Large solar parks remain one of the strongest sources of EPC demand in Turkey. The government-backed YEKA renewable energy tenders opened the door for international developers and local engineering firms to participate in multi-megawatt projects. Provinces such as Konya have become major solar hotspots because of land availability and high sunlight exposure. On the ground, EPC contractors are no longer competing only on pricing. Developers increasingly look for firms that can complete projects quickly while managing supply chain risks and grid connection approvals. There is also a visible shift toward higher-efficiency technologies like bifacial panels and solar tracking systems. Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Adoption is Picking Up Pace 

Turkey’s manufacturing sector has been under growing pressure from volatile electricity prices over the last few years. As a result, industrial rooftop solar has become less of a sustainability exercise and more of a financial decision. Energy Security Concerns and Policy Support 

Turkey’s dependence on imported natural gas has shaped much of its recent energy policy. Solar energy offers a practical alternative, especially during periods of fuel price instability. Policymakers have therefore continued to support renewable investments through feed-in mechanisms, licensing reforms, and grid modernization programs. Still, the policy environment is not always perfectly predictable. Some investors remain cautious because changes in currency valuation and regulatory procedures can affect project economics quite quickly. Even so, the broader direction remains clear. Turkey wants a larger share of electricity generation to come from domestic renewable sources, and solar EPC firms sit directly in the middle of that transition. 

Government-Led Initiatives Supporting Solar Expansion 

The Turkish government has steadily expanded renewable energy incentives over the last decade. Utility-scale solar auctions have attracted foreign capital, while net metering frameworks encouraged commercial rooftop adoption. Infrastructure spending on transmission upgrades is also helping renewable-heavy regions connect new capacity more efficiently. Another important development is local manufacturing support. Turkey has pushed for domestic production of panels and solar components to reduce import dependence. This may not fully replace foreign technology suppliers in the near term, but it has created opportunities for local engineering and procurement firms to build stronger regional supply networks. 

Market Competition and Industry Landscape 

Competition in Turkey’s solar EPC market has become noticeably tighter. Large international contractors compete for utility-scale projects, while domestic firms dominate much of the commercial rooftop segment. Some local EPC companies have an advantage because they understand permitting procedures, municipal approvals, and regional contractor networks better than overseas entrants. At the same time, margins are under pressure. Developers increasingly demand fixed-price contracts despite fluctuating equipment costs. A common challenge for EPC players is balancing aggressive bidding with long-term profitability. Companies that can offer strong after-sales support and maintenance services are likely to retain customers more effectively than firms focused only on installation volume. 

Grid Constraints and Currency Volatility 

One of the biggest obstacles for the sector remains grid connectivity. Several high-potential solar regions still face transmission bottlenecks, delaying approvals for new projects. Currency fluctuations add another layer of uncertainty since many solar components are imported and priced in foreign currencies. For EPC contractors, this creates a difficult balancing act. Delays in procurement or financing can quickly alter project economics. Smaller firms are particularly exposed because they often lack the financial flexibility needed to absorb cost swings during long construction cycles. 

Turkey Crosses 25 GW Solar Capacity Milestone in Early 2026 

Turkey’s renewable energy sector entered 2026 with a major milestone as installed solar capacity crossed 25.8 GW by the end of January, according to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Solar now contributes more than 20% of the country’s total installed electricity capacity, reflecting how rapidly the market has expanded over the last few years. Industry observers note that commercial rooftop installations and self-consumption projects played a major role in this surge, particularly among industrial businesses facing volatile electricity prices. The government also reaffirmed its long-term target of reaching 120 GW combined wind and solar capacity by 2035. 

Future Outlook  

Turkey’s solar EPC market is likely to maintain strong momentum through 2035 as electricity demand continues climbing and industries look for more stable energy costs. Utility-scale projects will remain important, though rooftop solar and hybrid energy systems could account for a larger share of installations over time. Battery storage integration is also becoming more relevant, especially for industrial users seeking uninterrupted power supply.
