Vietnam PCB Industry to Capture Larger Share of Southeast Asia Output with Over 12% CAGR Through 2035

Vietnam-printed-circuit-board-industry-scaled

Vietnam’s printed circuit board (PCB) market is entering a high-growth phase as the country cements its position as a key electronics manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia. By 2026, Vietnam has emerged as a preferred destination for global electronics brands seeking supply chain diversification beyond China. The country’s strong export performance in smartphones, consumer electronics, and computing devices is directly driving demand for multilayer and high-density interconnect (HDI) PCBs. While Vietnam still imports a portion of high-end PCB materials and substrates, domestic assembly and fabrication capabilities are expanding rapidly, supported by foreign direct investment (FDI) and proactive government policies. As global OEMs deepen their footprint in northern industrial clusters, Vietnam is steadily strengthening its PCB value chain.

What’s Driving the Printed Circuit Board Market in Vietnam?

Expansion of Electronics Manufacturing Clusters

Vietnam’s electronics sector has witnessed sustained expansion, particularly in provinces such as Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, and Hai Phong. Major global manufacturers including Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Foxconn, and Intel have established large-scale production facilities in the country. These facilities require high volumes of PCBs for smartphones, display panels, networking equipment, and computing devices. As Vietnam moves from basic assembly toward higher-value electronics production, demand for multilayer and HDI PCBs is increasing significantly.

Rising Export Demand and Trade Agreements

Vietnam’s participation in free trade agreements such as the CPTPP and the EU–Vietnam FTA has enhanced its attractiveness as an export base. Electronics remain one of the country’s largest export categories, with shipments to the United States, Europe, and other Asian markets growing steadily as of 2026. This export momentum is encouraging PCB manufacturers to expand local fabrication capacity to reduce lead times and logistics costs. Additionally, global brands are increasingly adopting a “China+1” strategy, positioning Vietnam as a strategic alternative for electronics and PCB sourcing.

Growth in Emerging Applications

Beyond consumer electronics, Vietnam’s PCB demand is expanding across automotive electronics, industrial automation, renewable energy systems, and telecommunications infrastructure. The gradual rollout of 5G networks and the rise of electric vehicle component manufacturing in the region are further supporting advanced PCB requirements. As IoT adoption rises in manufacturing and smart city projects, local demand for compact, high-performance boards is expected to increase steadily through 2035.

Government-Led Initiatives and Policy Support

The Vietnamese government has prioritized high-tech manufacturing under its national industrial development strategy. Incentives such as corporate tax reductions, preferential land leases in industrial parks, and streamlined customs procedures are attracting PCB and electronics investors. Special economic zones and high-tech parks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are providing infrastructure for electronics component manufacturers. Moreover, Vietnam’s semiconductor ambitions, including chip packaging and testing initiatives, are expected to indirectly benefit the PCB ecosystem by strengthening upstream and downstream linkages. Public–private partnerships aimed at workforce training in electronics engineering are also addressing skill gaps in PCB design and fabrication.

Market Competition and Industry Structure

The Vietnam PCB market remains moderately concentrated, with a mix of foreign-invested enterprises and domestic manufacturers. Taiwanese, South Korean, and Japanese PCB makers dominate the high-end multilayer and HDI segments, while local firms primarily cater to low- to mid-layer boards used in consumer appliances and basic electronics. Over time, domestic players are investing in technology upgrades to move up the value chain. Strategic collaborations, technology transfer agreements, and joint ventures are expected to intensify competition over the next decade.

High Import Dependency for Raw Materials

Despite rapid growth in fabrication capacity, Vietnam continues to rely heavily on imported raw materials such as copper-clad laminates, specialty resins, and advanced substrates. High-end PCB manufacturing equipment is also largely sourced from overseas suppliers. This dependency exposes manufacturers to currency fluctuations and global supply chain disruptions. Developing upstream material production capabilities will remain a key challenge if Vietnam aims to build a fully integrated PCB ecosystem.

Future Outlook

The Vietnam printed circuit board market is expected to register strong double-digit growth in the medium term, supported by sustained electronics exports, FDI inflows, and rising domestic technology adoption. By 2035, Vietnam is projected to strengthen its position as one of Southeast Asia’s leading PCB manufacturing hubs, particularly in multilayer and HDI segments. Increased localization of raw materials, expansion of semiconductor-related investments, and higher R&D spending are likely to enhance value addition within the country. As global supply chains continue to diversify, Vietnam is well-positioned to capture incremental PCB production shifting from mature manufacturing bases. The country’s competitive labor costs, improving infrastructure, and stable trade relationships will remain key advantages. While challenges related to raw material dependency and technology intensity persist, Vietnam is steadily transitioning from an assembly-focused electronics base to a more integrated and sophisticated PCB manufacturing ecosystem through 2035.

Consultants at Nexdigm, in their latest publication Vietnam Printed Circuit Board Market Outlook to 2035, analyzed the market by Type (Single-Sided, Double-Sided, Multilayer, HDI, Flexible PCBs), By Application (Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Industrial Equipment, Telecommunications, Renewable Energy), and By End User (OEMs, EMS Providers, Aftermarket). Nexdigm believes that businesses should prioritize technology partnerships, backward integration into laminates and substrates, and alignment with semiconductor ecosystem developments to strengthen long-term competitiveness in Vietnam’s evolving PCB market.
