Job Title: Assistant Manager or Deputy Manager – Indirect Tax

Location: Mumbai

Experience: 3 to 5 Yrs

Educational Qualification: CA /CMA Qualified/LLB

Work Mode: Hybrid


About the department:

The IDT vertical of Nexdigm has been supporting clients from all sort of sectors, and has been doing work around GST, Customs, FTP and erstwhile laws such as VAT, excise and service tax. We provide services centring around advisory, litigation, compliance, policy advocacy and refund services under indirect tax laws in India and GCC. The leaders and supervisors of this practice carry a vast experience from Big4s, law practices and prominent industries. Compliances (GST, VAT, Custom, FTP, UAE VAT), registrations/cancellations, refunds, advisory & structuring, due diligence, Departmental audits, Litigation, Policy advocacy etc

Role Description

Lead and manage Indirect tax advisory, compliance, and litigation activities with a focus on technical excellence, client engagement, and team collaboration. Handle work related to GST, Customs, FTP, SEZ, and erstwhile tax regimes such as VAT, Excise, and Service Tax, as well as overseas indirect tax laws.


Key Result Areas:

A.     Operations Excellence:

1. Advisory and Compliance Delivery

Deliver technically sound and timely GST advisory (notes/memos/opinions) and compliance reports.

2. Technical Leadership & Risk Management

Lead technical accuracy in engagements and proactively mitigate indirect tax risks across all projects.

3. Special Assignments & Litigation

Provide high-impact outputs for tax due diligence, health checks, and litigation matters (appeals, assessments).

4. Knowledge and Capability Building

Drive learning culture through regular team updates and training sessions on indirect tax developments.

5. Audit and Scrutiny Support

Provide comprehensive support to clients during departmental audits and scrutiny matters.


B.     Team Leadership:

1. Team Management & Development

Build, manage, and retain a skilled and motivated team (minimum 3 members)

2. Resource Planning & Task Allocation

Efficient deployment and workload balancing to ensure quality and timely delivery.

3. Upskilling team

Identify the training needs of self and the teams and coordinate with superiors to ensure the necessary training is arranged / provided. Continuously discussing and briefing the team on latest developments in the IDT landscape.


C.     Client Engagement & Reporting: 

1. Relationship Management

Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients and deepen engagement.

2. Financial Reporting

 Maintain accurate project-wise billing and growth reports. Including timely billing and recovery of the debtors


Required Competencies, Skills, and Experience

·       Deep technical knowledge of GST law, compliance, and litigation

·       Excellent client handling and advisory skills

·       Strong review, quality control, and documentation expertise

·       Team leadership, coaching, and development ability

·       Business acumen with exposure to billing and revenue management

·       Excellent written and verbal communication
