Centralised GST administration can cut duplicate audits, compliance costs
The proposed centralised administration of GST taxpayers with multiple
registrations under the same Permanent Account Number (PAN) could
significantly reduce compliance costs, duplicate audits and conflicting
tax positions for large multi state businesses, but its success will depend
on resolving Centre State jurisdictional issues and creating a common
technology enabled administrative framework, tax experts said.
The proposal could give large enterprises a coordinated administrative
interface instead of requiring them to deal with multiple tax formations
on similar issues, potentially reducing repetitive information requests,
parallel proceedings and inconsistent interpretations of the same
provisions, they said.
